Well, I said all that to say this: I think when Mike and John were describing the voluminous space and how well it was defined, I think part of what they were hearing was the magnificent job of rendering the microscopic molecules of the sometimes thousands of reverberant reflections; long, short, wide, narrow, loud and soft bouncing off everything from the microphone itself to walls, lighting fixtures, rugs and even people that constitute ambient audio.

That was followed with Nakagawa playing the tune for me on flute. Using the solid-state output, the sound became just the slightest bit more hard… more analytical, perhaps? There is detail without the nailgun transients or the emotional nonchalance. Mimimax also extends its majesty to encompass Pacific Ocean bass depth and Himalayan treble extension, the latter breathing new life into the top end of a pair of JohnBlue JB4 although, overall I still prefer the liquidity of NOS DACs with these loudspeakers.

However, if implemented incorrectly or matched to the wrong system, there is no guarantee Sabre DAC will be elcetric detailed and musical. The LEDs are not overly large or bright, and I love those beautiful silver knobs that stand out against the anodized black faceplate elctric chassis.

The DAC when modified, gave me more of that immediacy, urgency that I feel when hearing that first contact. Without going into excruciating detail about various tubes, I will mention mihimax few.

After everything is said and done, the stock machine with stock NE op-amps produces quite special sound quality already. Chief among these is a switch that gives the user the option to choose on the fly, I might add between an op-amp analog output and a true vacuum tube analog output. This wonderful little DAC is also great for tweaking not only it allow for easy opamp dax but also easy tube rolling.

Now, here's a slight negative if you want ,inimax look at it that way; The EE is not at all forgiving. In other words, we are most likely better off doing less minima on the data, thus keeping it closer to its original form as it is found on the source medium. I like the sound of female voices slightly better with the stock EE DAC, but I was listening late at night…not a fair comparison. It rang in my head like a bell.

We supposed if you already have a megabuck DAC, you might want to hang onto it, though you could sell it and buy one fo these, probably be just as happy and come out way ahead. And yeah, I'm still talking about regular CD's. This 32bit K DAC has been winning many award around the world.

When I come across something that is extraordinary, I like to get other opinions to make sure I'm not elextric in over exuberance. OPA reminded me of when too much noise reduction is applied in photography; image has clear and shiny outline but inside the image, small textures and details have been smoothed over too much, leaving a bland, lifeless subject. Not only because I like the both of them and their music is equally as fine as the recordings or vice versa…or versa vice!

Personal preference and system synergy will dictate one's ultimate elecrric here, and I suspect systems with more tubes in the signal path will synergize better with DEXA. It added gravitas to the high praise already heaped layer upon layer upon the album in the preceding paragraphs. It was as if the listener were seated a bit farther back in the concert venue, so that there was less focus and immediacy to the performance.
